How is software development done?
Mascidon consists of 1 person - Dr. Don Maes. I have been in the IT industry for over 40 years. I have been involved in the implementation of over 1,000 ERP systems. I currently only work with SAP Business One and have been doing this as Mascidon LLC since 2007.
How do I know the manufacturing and distribution industries? I spent the majority of my career in the Detroit area. I sold and installed software to over 130 manufacturing companies in the automotive industry. Their aftermarket divisions required distribution software. So I learned these businesses the hard way - one installation at a time.
Why do I work only with SAP? They treat dealers very well - lots of support. They spend $2.5 Billion on software R&D every year and share these enhancements across platforms - from their largest SAP installations to SAP Business one. SAP has made development of add-on software easier for the development community with the tools and expertise they provide. And there are literally thousands of SAP developers - so I don't lack resources when you have a complex project.
Dr. Don Maes works directly with your personnel to document your software development needs. This may be a couple of hours of work for simple requirements or several days for more complex projects. The end result is a Word document that lays out process changes within SAP, reports and queries required for the project, screen and table designs required for any new processes, and user instructions on how to use the new feature(s) you are adding to SAP Business One.
Once you have agreed that the paper design meets your requirements, Mascidon will begin the work. I personally will create reports, SQL or Hana stored procedures, queries within SAP, formatted searches, new tables and fields, and Boyum functionality. In some cases, this is all that is needed for the project.
When an SAP SDK (software development kit) is required, I work with a group of programmers in India that develop the SDK from specifications I provide them. They develop the software and use a test plan I develop to test the SDK. Once the SDK is operational on their systems, I install the SDK on your server (test environment) and retest.
The next step is to train your users - on the test database.
The final step is to move the software to the 'live' environment and work with your users to ensure that the functionality is working as designed.
